Maret School galvanizes the intellectual, analytical, creative, and physical capabilities of our students and equips them to excel in future academic endeavors. We join with our parents to instill in each student the self-reliance and moral awareness to develop healthy personal relationships, work through challenges, and enjoy life. In a community that embraces different cultures, interests, perspectives, and talents, we prepare our students to become responsible, thoughtful, and well-informed adults who are able to play an active role in improving the world.
SCHOOL AND PHILOSOPHY
Founded in 1911, Maret School is an independent, coeducational, K–12, college preparatory day school located on a single campus. Maret’s historic site, set amid the vast resources of Washington, D.C., connects our students with the history and future of our extended community.
Our philosophy celebrates a number of dichotomies. Emphasizing a combination of independence and widespread collaboration, we incorporate traditional academic rigor and innovative methods of teaching and inquiry. Within a relaxed atmosphere unencumbered by elaborate rules, we encourage a deep sense of each person’s accountability to the school community. In all areas—academic, artistic, and athletic—we applaud high achievement while promoting a philosophy of nurtured risk-taking.
As our students progress from lower to middle to upper school, they gain freedom in manageable increments. Guiding them through their journeys is a highly responsive faculty of dedicated lifelong learners.
