Middle School

Maret’s Middle School is a springboard for exploration…and a comfortable anchor to help keep young explorers grounded. Independence – and the responsibility that comes with it – evolves during grades 5-8. Academics become increasingly challenging as Middle School progresses; students take on age-appropriate rigors.

Here is a basic overview of how our Middle School is structured:

  • Approximately 200 students in grades 5 through 8
  • Combined math/science and combined English/history classes taught in 90 minute blocks in the 5th grade
  • Students begin taking Latin in addition to a foreign language beginning in 6th grade
  • Each student meets daily with an academic advisor
  • Middle School "houses" comprised of 5th through 8th grade students and teachers engage in monthly house competitions to encourage friendships across the grades
A unique benefit of Maret is having all grades, K-12, on one campus. Middle School students benefit from this dynamic, serving as role models for our youngest learners, while being mentored by older Upper School students.  School-wide events, such as our annual All School Art Show, bring the entire community together. Elementary and high school students are appreciative audiences for the standing-room-only Middle School performing arts productions. Without a doubt, being in “the middle” is a great place to be at Maret!
