Applying to Lower School (Grades K–4)

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 4TH GRADE TOUR
Tours begin in the early fall and are required for the parents/guardians of applicants to Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grades applicants. If you have already toured the school in the last year, a second tour is optional. Small group tours of campus include an overview of our program and explanation of the admission process. Tours are offered from late September through January and are approximately two hours. We recommend calling the Admission Office to schedule a tour as they do fill quickly.
OPEN HOUSE
The Open House is a wonderful opportunity to visit campus and meet teachers, parents, spend time in classrooms and have questions answered about the program. The Open House is Sunday, December 9, 2007 from 12:00 noon –2:00 p.m. No RSVP is necessary.
APPLICATION
Applications can be submitted to the Admission Office and through our website. A non-refundable fee of $65 must accompany each application for admission. If you are unable to pay the full amount please call the Admission Office for a fee reduction.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grade are the primary expansion years in the Lower School. We do not anticipate openings in 2nd and 3rd grade for the 2008–09 academic year. Please call the Admission Office for more information.
AGE
Kindergarten applicants must turn 5 by September 1, 2008 (born before 9-1-03) and applicants to first grade must turn 6 by September 1, 2008 (born before 9-1-02).
Due Dates
Applications for admission must be received in the Admission Office by:
4th grade: Friday, December 28, 2007, 12:00 noon.
Kindergarten–3rd grade: Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 5:00 p.m.
Supporting documents (teacher recommendations and testing reports) must be received in the Admission Office by:
4th grade: Friday, January 11, 2008
Kindergarten–3rd grade: Friday, February 1, 2008
Testing
Although we cannot endorse a particular tester, we do provide a list of experienced evaluators to help facilitate the process and recommend that parents/guardians schedule testing early. Children under age 6 take the WPPSI-III and children age 6 and older take the WISC-IV.
Teacher Recommendation Form
A teacher recommendation form will be mailed to you once we have received an application. The completed form should be sent directly to the Admission Office by the teacher or school. One form from your child’s current teacher is required. If your child has more than one teacher for major subjects, additional forms may be copied or downloaded from our website.
Applicant Visit
Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade
The Admission Office will schedule your child’s visit to Maret once we have received the application. Small group visits take place during January and February and are 1–2 hours long. Please note that it is not necessary for you to remain on campus during your child’s visit.
2nd and 3rd grade
We will visit with 2nd and 3rd grade applicants only if a space becomes available.
