Applying to Upper School (9-12)

Thank you for your interest in applying to Maret. We hope the checklist below will help guide you through the application process.

Campus Visit

We strongly encourage students and parents to visit the School before applying.

Small group tours are offered from late September through January and last approximately 90 minutes. We recommend calling the Admission Office to schedule a tour as they do fill quickly.

At the Open House, families may also tour the campus, hear from the Head of School and Division Directors, and talk with teachers, parents and students. The Open House is on Sunday, December 9, 2007 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. Please arrive no later than 2:30 to take full advantage of the program. No RSVP necessary.

Application

Applications can be submitted to the Admission Office and online through our website. A non-refundable fee of $65 must accompany each application for admission. If you cannot afford the full amount, please call the Admission Office to request a fee reduction.

7th and 9th grades are the primary expansion years in the Middle and Upper School. We accept applications for all grades but we do not anticipate openings in 5th, 6th, and 8th grades for the 2008–09 academic year. Please call the Admission Office for more information.

Due Dates

Applications for admission must be received in the Admission Office by Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

Interview appointments must be scheduled by Friday, January 18, 2008 and completed by Monday, February 4, 2008.

Supporting documents must be received in the Admission Office by Friday, February 1, 2008.

Interview

(9th, 10th, 11th Grades Only)
It is the responsibility of the applicant family to schedule the interview. During this appointment the applicant will speak individually with an admission officer or faculty member. Parent(s)/guardian(s) will speak privately with the interviewer afterwards. Interviews are offered between September and early February, and all interview appointments must be scheduled by Friday, January 18, 2008 and completed by Monday, February 4, 2008.

Supporting Documents

The required current math and English teacher recommendation forms and a transcript release form will be mailed to you once we have received an application. Completed forms should be sent directly to the Admission Office by the teacher or school. (These forms are also available on our website.)

Students applying to 5th grade are required to take the Wechsler Intelligence Scale Test (WISC). Students applying to 6th through 10th grade are required to take either the SSAT or ISEE. You may register online or obtain brochures through our Admission Office. Students applying to 11th grade are asked to submit results from either the SSAT, ISEE, or PSAT.

9th Grade Shadow Visit (Optional)

9th grade applicants are welcome to spend a day on campus shadowing a current Maret 9th grader. Shadow visits are provided solely for the applicant to gain a better sense of the School and do not impact the admission decision. A shadow visit can be scheduled after the application has been received. Appointments are limited and scheduled on a first come first served basis.
