Maret's Malone Scholar's Program
Funded by a $2 million endowment grant from the Malone Family foundation
What is the Malone Family Foundation?
Founded by John Malone of Colorado, the Malone Family Foundation’s primary goal is to provide scholarship funding at the secondary level for students who are in the top of their classes, have the desire and drive to educate themselves to the very best of their ability, but whose families are without the financial resources to attend excellent private schools.
In this quest, the Foundation seeks the assistance of excellent partners: private secondary schools that have an intense interest in educating the gifted and talented—schools that have educational resources to challenge each individual mind, an appropriate environment to encourage a reach for excellence, intimate class sizes allowing a personal teacher-to-student relationship, the flexibility to allow creative minds to flourish, and a social atmosphere in which each student may exercise his or her intelligence without embarrassment or ridicule.
The Foundation began funding schools in 2000. In the spring of 2003, Maret was chosen from among fifty schools nationwide to receive a gift of $2 million to establish an endowment to support a Malone Scholars program at our School. Only 22 schools have received this honor.
Who should apply?
Any student who is applying to the seventh through eleventh grade or is a current student at Maret in the sixth through eleventh grade, who is a top student, and whose family is applying for financial aid will be considered for the scholarship. In addition, a successful applicant must come from a family whose demonstrated financial need is at least 50% of Maret’s tuition. Please contact the Admission Office at 202-939-8814 if you have further questions.
