Diversity at Maret
Faces, Voices, Cultures, Choices
As you walk around the Maret campus, you can’t help but notice that there’s something different about our school. Perhaps the special something that helps define Maret is the honest commitment we’ve made—and continue to make—to embrace and celebrate
differences. Our vivid mix of cultures, backgrounds, personalities, and opinions gives Maret vivacity that’s not only visible, but tangible as well. You can see the differences at Maret; you can hear and feel them too.
Several fundamental aspects of Maret allow us to enjoy uniquely diverse experiences. Maret is an independent, coeducational day school in Washington, D.C. with kindergarten through twelfth grade all on one campus; our students’ ages span five to eighteen years. Maret’s urban location, a short walk from the Metro, puts the diversity of our nation’s capital virtually at our door. Through opportunities on and off campus, our students hear different voices, learn through interaction and involvement with a variety of communities, and strengthen their global awareness. Together, students and faculty form a varied but inclusive family, ideal for the compelling exchange of ideas and imaginative preparation for life beyond Maret.
Maret is a learning community that values respect, integrity, the individual, connectedness, creativity, excellence, and joy. Our kaleidoscope of cultures, ages, family structures, sexual orientation, races, religions, talents, and perspectives allows us to live those values to their fullest. It’s an experience that’s sometimes challenging…always engaging…and ultimately extremely rewarding.
We recognize that the definition of “diversity” is ever evolving and we continue to expand our efforts to be inclusive. I hope your voice will join ours: different voices, working in harmony to make the Maret difference.
