Diversity at Maret
Distinct Voices
With 600 students and more than 100 teachers, administrators, and staff, the voices of Maret speak with the accents of 42 different nations, and hail from virtually every continent in the world. Geographic variety colors the way Maret sounds; it colors the way Maret looks and thinks as well.
Birthplace is one thing that may differ from student to student. Talent, interests, and approaches to learning are other differences that make the Maret student body truly unique. We take pride in the fact that there is no profile of the “typical” Maret student. Articulate, athletic, creative, analytical, effervescent or introspective: there’s a place for a vast array of academic and extracurricular strengths at our school.
Just as there is no single prototype for a Maret student, our definition of the “Maret family” is varied and often non-traditional. Maret is well aware that modern family profiles have expanded to include single parents, same-sex parents, adoptive parents, melded families, and grandparents who are raising youngsters. All are significant, respected members of our parenting community.
Opinions and perspectives are as varied as the people who hold them. Maret works to encourage open, constructive discourse among students and adult members of the community as well. The honest and thoughtful exchange of differing points of view helps students form their own unique stance on important moral and political matters, while learning to listen thoughtfully and disagree respectfully.
