Diversity at Maret

Strong Voices

Clearly, Maret students are not typecast. Differences abound. Yet there is a strong common element that runs through our student body: Involvement. Maret teaches that actions really do speak louder than words. Rather than merely giving lip service to diversity, our students put their voices—and their muscle—into a variety of advocacy organizations.

Action for Women

Action for Women is a group created by young women as a means of support and as a forum for awareness of women’s issues. Naturally, men are welcome!

DC Area Students of Color Conference

Maret students help organize and host the annual student-run conference for local, independent middle and upper school students. The daylong event includes guest speakers, large group awareness meetings, and small group discussions.

Diversity at Maret

DAM is an organization that supports racial, ethnic, sexual, and religious variety. Students are encouraged to celebrate diversity, understanding, and awareness.

Gay-Straight Alliance

This group works to foster a better understanding of the issues confronted by gay, lesbian, and bisexual students, teachers, and parents.

Young Republicans and Young Democrats

The Young Republicans and Young Democrats clubs provide students at Maret a forum to talk about politics. The clubs host a range of speakers on both ends of the political spectrum who help examine the critical issues of the day. Although these clubs are specifically geared to supporters of each platform, anyone is invited to attend meetings and offer alternative views.
