Horizons at Maret™

Horizons at Maret, the partnership between our founding partner H.D. Cooke Elementary School, our newest partner, Bancroft School, and Maret School, will open its 9th summer in 2008 from June 23 - August 1.

Under the direction of Program Director Kiki Sweigart, Horizons provides an exciting summer of academic enrichment including reading, writing, math, science, music, field trips, and an arts program in conjunction with the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. The Swiss Embassy, along with many loyal friends and parents, will once again open their pools so Horizons students can enjoy daily swimming lessons.

Horizons at Maret is one of 14 affiliates of the National Horizons Student Enrichment Program (www.horizonsnational.org), based in New Canaan, Connecticut, and is the only Horizons program in the Washington, D.C. area. Horizons at Maret aims to prevent a summer decline in academic retention, foster a love of learning, bolster academic achievement, and improve school attendance. Preliminary results from a Yale University study of Horizons programs indicate that we are beginning to have an impact: measures of motivation for learning among Horizons students around the country have shown statistically significant improvement.

Horizons at Maret is hosted by Maret School, but is funded separately from Maret. We depend on grants from foundations, in-kind gifts, fundraising events, and individual donations for financial support.
