MPA Diversity Committee

Mission

The mission of the Maret Parents Association (MPA) Diversity Committee is to assist Maret School in fulfilling its commitment to support and celebrate a diverse and vibrant school community. Diversity Committee is open to all Maret parents and embraces all forms of diversity, including race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion and socio-economic status.

The MPA Diversity Committee creates and supports a variety of opportunities for open and constructive dialogue among Maret parents, school administration, and students that help foster a school environment where everyone feels respected, safe, included and valued.

Examples of Committee Activities

  • Learning opportunities for all – creating a variety of forums for dialogue about diversity-related topics of interest to deepen understanding and promote community cohesion.
  • Supports for families of diverse backgrounds – welcoming and assisting new Maret families of diverse backgrounds through the Parent Ambassador Program, encouraging active engagement in MPA and other school-related activities, and providing opportunities for the school’s families of diverse backgrounds to meet one another
  • Supports of student diversity clubs and activities – helping faculty advisers and student members of the Lower School Culture Club, the Middle School Diversity Club, and the Upper School Diversity at Maret Club to accomplish their goals
  • Support of administration efforts – particularly assisting recruitment efforts by identifying and reaching out to families of diverse backgrounds in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. The Chair of the MPA Diversity Committee also regularly advises and provides constructive feedback to the MPA Executive Committee in its efforts to reach out and include Maret families of diverse backgrounds in the MPA and its related activities.
