Children enrolled in our After School program have the chance to socialize with friends while enjoying various games and outdoor activities on Maret's campus.
On Wednesdays afternoon, students have the option of watching an indoor movie. All movies are rated G for Lower School students and are selected based on reviews provided by Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org). A monthly list of movie selections is posted in advance on the After School web site. Parents are invited to review the monthly list prior to screenings.
The After School program offers a wide variety of activities: playground games and free time, arts and crafts, story time, board games and more. There are also indoor activities, such as dramatic play and building with Lego’s and blocks.
Lower School Activities
Lower School clubs are open to all students, whether or not they are enrolled in our After School program. Students who sign up for a club while enrolled in our After School program will attend the club immediately after dismissal from the regular school day. When the club meeting is over, these children go immediately to After School. Our Lower School clubs vary each year, but may include Girls on the Run, Chess Club, French Club, Puzzle Club, and Culture Club.
Students in grades 3-8 who are enrolled in our After School program participate in an hour-long, mandatory study hall Monday through Thursday. Study hall is run by Maret faculty and After School counselors. These adults provide homework assistance, helping students get a jump start on the evening’s projects and assignments.
When the regular school day ends, students enrolled in After School remain on campus. They must sign in with an After School counselor at the designated location for their grade level.
- K-4 students come to the After School room located off of the Lower School lobby.
- 5-6 students come to Room 140-AB (the 5th grade Humanities classroom).
- 7-8 students come to Room 250-AB (located across from the Old Gym).
Adults picking up students from After School must enter the building and sign out students with an After School counselor. This is a requirement for any student leaving campus. All students must be picked up by 6:00 pm. A late fee of $15.00 will be charged for the first ten minutes after the required 6:00 pm pick up; an additional $1 per minute will be charged for every minute after 6:10 pm.
(This includes students receiving financial aid as well as “drop-in” students.)
Please download the After School contract here.
There are several After School program options; costs vary according to plan. Please see the contract for details and choose the one that best fits the needs of your family.
Students who attend our After School program on days for which they are not enrolled will be charged drop-in fees. Parents must contact After School Program Director Jason Velez at least two hours before the end of the academic day to ensure that space is available. The drop-in fee is a flat rate, regardless of time spent in After School that day. The fee is $30.00 per day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and $45.00 on Wednesday.
Students who receive financial aid towards the cost of tuition typically pay a reduced fee for the After School program. Financial aid recipients will receive a letter explaining this information. Please note, however, that these students must be formally signed up for the program (that is, with a completed, signed After School contract) in order to pay the reduced fee. Those who attend the After School program without a signed contract will be charged as a drop-in student.
