A strong sense of community and cooperation are foundations of Maret. We are committed to being a good neighbor in our local community and to partnering with other organizations – local, regional and global – that enrich our academics and school life.  Maintaining links with our extended community ensures an attachment to both our history and our future.

Our community engagement programs are tightly integrated with our curriculum. Examples include: Horizons Greater Washington; Service Learning (K-12); and our stewardship of Jelleff Field. While our programs vary in their objectives, each emphasizes authentic relationships, reciprocity, and respect. Maret’s students and faculty benefit from their involvement with our public school partners and other non-profit institutions and see themselves making a difference in their wider community.

Service Learning is an innovative K-12 teaching approach that incorporates community service into traditional academic courses.  Maret has forged meaningful, longstanding relationships with partner organizations by incorporating service learning throughout the curriculum.
