Evacuation Details and Procedures

1. CODE RED -- FIRE - EMERGENCY EVACUATION to Front Field

Possible Use: Fire threat
Alert Protocol: Fire alarms in building locations per District code
EVACUATION GUIDELINES

• K-12 and Faculty evacuate silently to front field
• Faculty assignments for Sweepers/Attendance K-12 & Faculty
(Business Office personnel monitor traffic at entrance gate)
• Central info hub on front field
• Maintenance calls authorities and determines area and level of threat
• Head of School calls “all clear” for re-entry

2. CODE PURPLE -- EMERGENCY EVACUATION to Back Field

Possible Use: Threat when front of school is inaccessible
Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate calls “Code Purple” using intercom.

TO BACK FIELD

3. CODE BLUE -- EVACUATION to New Gym

Possible Use: External threat

Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate calls “Code Blue” using intercom, instructing silent evacuation to New Gym.

• K-12 and Faculty evacuate silently to New Gym

• Faculty assignments for Sweepers/Attendance K-12 & Faculty
• Central info hub in New Gym at bottom of bleachers
• Head of School or Maintenance calls authorities
• Emergency supplies available but limited
• Head of School calls “all clear” for re-entry

4. CODE GREEN – INTERNAL Evacuation to Set Locations

Possible Use: Threat on/near campus within 2-mile radius OR severe weather –
NO use of outside paths to safety
Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate calls “Code Green” over intercom, instructing silent evacuation to pre-designated locations on campus.
EVACUATION GUIDELINES
• Silent evacuation to key locales on campus (LS Library, Theatre, NG, OG)
• Those in Cottage & Stables should remain in place.
• Use on-site phones or walkie-talkies to communicate (those with access to walkie-talkies
should take with them)
• Head of School or Maintenance calls authorities
• Emergency supplies available but limited
• Administration will conduct a head count after the “all-clear”

5. CODE YELLOW—Internal Shelter

Possible Use: Tornado
Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate announces “Code Yellow” over intercom, instructing everyone to seek shelter immediately in lower level corridors, away from windows and large open spaces. Everyone should remain quiet and follow teachers' directions until the all-clear is called.
EVACUATION GUIDELINES
• Immediate evacuation to lower level interior spaces away from windows.

• Same sweepers as for fire drills; also Asst Head for Finance & Operations sweeps back field and Asst Head for Academic Affairs sweeps front lawn
• If your area sweeper is not available, please sweep if you’re not managing students
• Suggested Shelter Locations if you are in the following areas when Code is announced:

➢ Stables & Development offices: SHELTER near Stables lower level hallway
➢ Cottage: SHELTER in LS Library, LS Science/Art hallway
➢ Lower School: SHELTER in LS Library, LS Science/Art hallway
➢ AC: SHELTER in area of Classroom 162 and adjacent hallways (i.e., near nurses office/cafeteria and leading to LS); After School kitchen area in LS
➢ Woodley: SHELTER in Garden level hallway (near Language office/tutoring rooms)
➢ AB: SHELTER in MS hallways and wrestling room

6. CODE ORANGE -- Lockdown

Use: Threat ON CAMPUS

Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate calls “Code Orange.”
EVACUATION GUIDELINES
• Head of School or Maintenance calls authorities
• SILENTLY clear all interior open spaces (e.g., Atrium, Theatre, Cafeteria, foyers, etc).
• Stay away from windows.
• Go to nearest interior safe location (e.g., classroom/office--behind a closed and locked door)
Administration will conduct head count after the “all-clear”

7. CODE BLACK – Evacuate Campus

Use: Threat ON CAMPUS

Alert Protocol: Marjo or her designate calls “Code Black.”

• Head of School or Maintenance calls authorities
EVACUATE CAMPUS; gather at Washington International School
• Administration will conduct head count after the “all-clear”

Faculty should make themselves familiar with these directions to Washington International School, which is within walking distance from Maret.
