Performing Arts Department Chair (K-12)
Maret School seeks an inspiring and visionary teacher and an innovative leader to serve as chair of the K-12 Performing Arts Department. The chair oversees and champions performing arts programming, instruction, and curriculum for all grades, mentors and supervises departmental faculty, and works collaboratively with a broader circle of teachers and administrators to ensure the quality, breadth, and strength of the school’s performing arts. This position requires excellent collaboration, communication, leadership, and managerial skills. The Performing Arts Chair reports to the Assistant Head for Curriculum Development.

As an Educational Leader, the successful candidate will:
- Serve as a team leader who envisions and leads positive change, inspires teachers to embrace collaboration and professional development, and models and cultivates respect for others.
- Lead department members in the establishment and implementation of departmental vision, goals, and course objectives, consistent with the school’s mission.
- Serve as a member of the committee that oversees the school’s educational program and graduation requirements.
- Chair regular department meetings to discuss program and curricular initiatives; meet regularly with teachers to provide expertise, feedback and direction regarding excellent teaching practice; and facilitate professional growth.
- Manage the departmental budget and day-to-day functioning of the department, allot yearly teaching assignments, coordinate student schedules, manage substitute coverage when teachers are out, and in collaboration with others, hire for departmental vacancies.
- Champion a culture of creativity and artistic exploration for a rich student experience.
- Lead with a student-centered approach and enthusiasm for working with students of all ages and a range of skills.
- Teach 50% time in their field of expertise.
- Have a master’s degree (preferred).
Compensation will be between 110 and 150K, dependent on experience and qualifications.
