Sue is an accomplished school leader known for her collaborative spirit, energy, and insight. Most recently, she served as interim head of National Cathedral School (NCS). While there, she guided the school through the COVID pandemic, advanced the priorities of a newly approved strategic plan, and expanded the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) office and initiatives.
Prior to NCS, she served for 18 years as head of school at Kent Place School in New Jersey. She launched signature programs in ethics, leadership, global learning, and economic and financial literacy. She also led the fundraising for two major capital campaigns and oversaw numerous campus improvement projects — including the construction of the new upper school, science wing, music wing, center for innovation, and turf athletic fields. Before becoming head of school, she was director of the Lower School and director of the Middle School.
Sue started her career as a middle school science teacher at Kingswood/Cranbrook School in Michigan and continued at Newark Academy in New Jersey where she also taught upper school science and was the Middle School Director. Reflecting on her years as a teacher, Sue says, “I loved my years in the classroom, which now ground me as I strive every day to lead in ways that bring out the best in each community member and help students to find a confident and unique voice that comes from within.”
Well known in the independent school world, Sue has served as a trustee of a number of educational organizations, including The New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, and The Heads Network. She has been a partner at Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, an executive leadership coach, and a member of Maret’s Board of Trustees (2018–2019, 2021–Present).
