PE & Athletics
Maret believes that fitness is essential to wellbeing and that athletics teach important life skills that extend beyond the physical. Hard work, personal accomplishment, good sportsmanship, self-discipline, and cooperation are taught at every grade level, K-12.
We develop athletes of all levels, from beginning players to those who want to play Division I, II, or III. Maret celebrates and encourages all students to be multisport athletes, which helps them learn different sports strategies and reduces receptive overuse injuries. At a school with about 320 upper school students, this approach is vital to the success of our sizable athletic program.
Lower School physical education classes are held four times a week.
Middle School Fifth and sixth graders focus on team skills and individual sports strategies. By seventh and eighth grades, students of all abilities use and expand upon these skills through interscholastic soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
Upper School Team sports continue to be central to Maret’s education through high school, when students choose from interscholastic team sports; individual concentrations such as martial arts, dance, and weight training; a general PE class; or independent study.
