Dear Families and Faculty,
We have had quite a flurry of events this week, including a Winter Celebration on Wednesday that brought students and faculty together for a festive virtual display of singing, storytelling, and dancing. It was wonderful to share that time together as a community. A link to the event recording will be included in an email that is coming out from the MPA later today.
As we head into a much-needed vacation, I have a few updates to share with you.
At this week’s meeting of Maret’s COVID Steering Committee, we discussed our protocols for quarantine. Based on the most recent guidance from government and public health officials and what we know about the science, the quarantine period required by the School following travel is being reduced from 14 days to 10 days. In addition, the quarantine period imposed after “close contact” with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 can now end after 10 days, provided no symptoms appear. The rate at which new information appears is brisk, and the hard-working Steering Committee continues to stay abreast of the science so that we can adjust our practices as appropriate.
I remind you that, following the end of Winter Break and through the Inauguration, all-virtual learning will continue under our COL at Home program. Over the past two weeks, Assistant Head for Curriculum Development Maria Lopez has been working with a team of faculty members to enhance the COL Hybrid model. We will host another webinar in early January to share with you the specific improvements that we will implement when we return to COL Hybrid, hopefully on January 21. Although we will continue a similar schedule for Frogs and Toads, there will be substantially less screen time, as well as some schedule adjustments to allow for more social interaction.
Between now and then, please stay warm and safe.
With hope that we can all be together more in the new year,
