Due to the success at regionals on November 16th, our 7th grade "Team 2" was invited to the DC-VA State competition, which was in Harrisonburg, VA. Saturday was about presentations. The group (Raquel, Nikhita, Sachin, Sheps, David, Zoe, and Emma) presented their robot design and their "Innovation Project" - where they research and presented their original idea connected to having planters hanging from the sides of office buildings and apartment buildings. They also had a Core Values presentation: this involved them discussing how the Maret core values connect to the First Lego League core values of "Coopertition" (Cooperative Competition) and "Gracious Professionalism". Also part of this presentation was a challenge - it's always an engineering challenge where they need to display teamwork and problem-solving. The challenge: they were given some random materials and asked to build the tallest structure possible. Sunday was about the robot competition and call back. Students had 3 tries (and a few practice rounds) to get the most points by having our robot complete as many missions as possible in 2.5 minutes. Only 2 students can be at a board at once, but they can rotate in. They were able to earn 265 points, more than ever done before.
