Music brings joy to school life at Maret. Whether playing instruments or lifting their voices in song, students learn to express themselves and work with others across divisions to create music and build community. Enjoy their music below!
Inspired by the Kodaly and Orff philosophies, the Lower School music curriculum encourages a lifelong love of music. Students learn to express themselves musically and explore the foundations of music literacy. They sing together, play instruments, develop strong listening skills, and perform for friends and family. A highlight every year is the all-school sing.
Maret’s middle school music curriculum broadens students experiences, skills, and appreciation of music. It covers composition and improvisation, performances within and outside the school community, greater understanding of cultural and historical perspectives, and increasing knowledge of notation, structure, and form. Students are encouraged to try new things in an environment of nurtured risk-taking.
The Upper School offers many opportunities in choral and instrumental music, including several Jazz combos, the Rock Combo, Concert Band/Strings, Concert Choir, and a capella groups. Classes are performance-oriented, with numerous opportunities to showcase the students’ evolving talents both on and off-campus.
