In this generative workshop, participants will explore all aspects of the creative process, including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, workshopping, and revising. Writers will focus on developing their personal style and voice while writing for an audience. Daily activities will include community brainstorming sessions, group analysis of representative texts, instructor-assisted outlining, guided writing exercises, and individual drafting. Each day will conclude with a wrap-up activity. By the end of the week, students will have a portfolio consisting of four to five original pieces.
Please note:
  • Participants should provide their own lunch (that does not need to be refrigerated) and a water bottle.
  • We do not offer before or after care for summer camps.

Camp Director

Aaron Weiss has taught Creative Writing and Spanish at Maret for the past seven years. He is the author of two books: The Apologist, a novel, and Lenin's Asylum, a travel memoir. His short stories and essays have been published in various journals, and he has received special mention in the Pushcart Prize Anthology twice. Aaron is a recipient of grants from the Bronx Council on the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council. He is also an alumnus of the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop in Fiction and the Bilingual MFA in Creative Writing program at the University of Texas at El Paso.
