School of Rock Camp
Dates: July 10–14, 2023
Time: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Ages: Rising 5th-12th grade
Are you a musician who is getting good at your instrument, but wish you had people to play with? Are you someone who loves to write a melody, but wishes you had someone to back you up? Are you looking to jam on some famous songs with other musicians? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this is the perfect summer, musical adventure for you. For all musicians from rising 5th graders to rising 12th graders, consider signing up for a fun musical experience that will give you the chance to meet other musicians, learn what it takes to play in a group and explore songwriting with a seasoned, former professional, classical, jazz and rock musician, Nicholas Michalopoulos. We will organize students by level and instrument. Some experience on student’s selected instrument(s) required, but beginners are welcomed.
Participants should provide their own lunch (that does not need to be refrigerated) and a water bottle.
Nicholas Michalopoulos is a conservatory trained pianist who studied music at Peabody Conservatory, The Paris Conservatory, and Cornell University. He played piano professionally as a jazz and classical pianist and composer. He was the songwriter and keyboardist for the Philadelphia-based band, Bebek, which released three studio albums and toured much of the country. He also plays the saxophone, bass, and drums.
He will be assisted by his son, Avraam Michalopoulos, who is a veteran of the School of Rock in Silver Spring, MD. Avraam plays the drums, bass, and piano and has performed over twenty live shows both as part of the School of Rock and as a solo pianist.
