Traffic Guidelines

Metrorail
Maret encourages faculty and older students to use Metrorail services. The School is approximately a 12-minute walk from the Woodley Park/Zoo Metrorail stop on the Red Line. DC resident students may be eligible for a metro student discount card. Virginia & Maryland students may also be eligible for a commuting stipend. Please see Ms. Zobay for details.

Maret Shuttle
Maret runs a shuttle each morning at 7:40am and 7:50am from the Woodley Park metro for students and faculty.

If you are the parent/guardian of an upper school student who drives on campus, or have adults other than Maret parents/guardians dropping off or picking up your child, please also share the following information with them.

General Information

• During drop-off and pick-up times, no left turns onto campus are allowed. Also during this time, left turn exits are permitted under the direction and assistance of a traffic control officer.
• Always follow the directions of the traffic control personnel during drop-off and pick-up.
• Please do not leave your car, even for a minute, on the front drive or on Cathedral Avenue during car line.

Lower School

• Lower school students should arrive on campus by 8:00 a.m. The doors will be open to the building at 7:45 a.m.
• Those picking up lower school students must have yellow signs displayed in their front windshield to get onto campus for dismissal (2:45 p.m. on M, T, Th, & F; 1:40 p.m. on Wed). If families need extra copies of these signs, please email Chris Appleby at cappleby@maret.org.

Middle School
Those picking up middle school students have designated pick-up times by grade:

• 5th Grade Pick-Up
  • 3:05pm — M, T, Th, F
  • 2:00pm — W
     
• 6th Grade Pick-Up
  • 3:05pm — M, T, Th, F
  • 2:05pm — W
     
• 7th & 8th Grades Pick-Up
  • 3:35pm — M, T, Th
  • 2:25pm — W
  • 3:10pm — F
     
• Those picking up 5th or 6th graders must have blue placards and those picking up 7th or 8th graders must have yellow placards displayed in their front windshield to get onto campus for dismissal
• Drivers arriving prior to the designated pick-up time will be asked to come back at the appropriate time.
• Please do not wait across the street on Cathedral Avenue—it causes problems for our immediate neighbors.

Upper School

• Those picking up upper school students, given that class schedules vary, are not permitted on campus until 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15 p.m. on Monday and Friday, and 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
• Drivers arriving prior to the designated pick-up time will be asked to come back at the appropriate time.
• Please do not wait across the street on Cathedral Avenue — it causes problems for our immediate neighbors.

• Upper school students who drive must get a parking decal and fill out appropriate vehicle information.
• There is no parking on Cathedral Avenue between Woodley Road and 29th Street and no parking on Hawthorne Street or Garfield Terrace.
• Upper School students may not park on campus at any time before 4:00 p.m. on a school day, including during exams, except in limited, pre-assigned designated spaces.
• If  students park in areas where they are not supposed to park, students will be asked to move their cars and instructed not to park in those locations in the future. Students typically receive a warning for a first violation and increasingly severe consequences, such as limited off-campus privileges, for repeat violations; however, multiple violations could lead to suspension.
• Alleyway cut-throughs (such as Cortland at Cathedral directly in front of the school) should not be used when driving to and from campus.
